Their feet are used to help them dig through the soil. Gophers are even more territorial than moles and other than in mating season.
Gophers Vs Moles What Re The Differences Pest Strategies
To start gophers are larger than moles.

Are gophers and moles the same thing. They have gray or black fur and flat feet that look a bit like human hands. We use bait to control them. Another telltale sign is their handiwork.
The difference between a gopher and mole gophers are medium sized rodents with fur lined pouches outside of their mouths. Their faces have pointed snouts tiny eyes and ears so small they can t be seen. Often confused for one another these three animals are in fact distinct and differ in their habits and destruction.
Moles are about six to eight inches long with slim snouts and small eyes and ears. Moles voles and gophers are three critters that can wreck havoc on lawns and flower beds. They do not have the same flat feet that characterize moles.
Most gopher activity is noticed in the spring and fall when they are the most active. The good thing about moles is the low number per acre. Fortunately pocket gophers and moles typically inhabit different kinds of habitat.
Moles on the other hand have stocky bodies with very short front legs large scoop shaped claws and gray fur. Gophers look a bit like miniature groundhogs with small ears beady eyes and short brown hair. About 35 species of gophers are currently living in the northern and central parts of america.
They dig their living chambers and tunnels up to 6 feet underground. Not only have gophers earned a reputation for destroying lawns but they have been known to destroy underground utility cables sprinkler systems and irrigation systems. Their size is the same as that of a small squirrel while moles are usually equivalent in size to a human s thumb.
Rather it can be said that they are endemic to north and central america. Gophers have gray brown or white fur tiny eyes ears and whiskers. Signs of gophers are usually volcano shaped mounds without a network of raised runways leading to it.
Gophers which are also referred to as pocket gophers are rodents that belong to the family of geomyidae. Pocket gophers typically occupy drier sites than do moles because gophers are herbivorous. Gophers don t dig surface tunnels like moles.
Because moles changed their main food source from grubs to worms chemical control of grubs usually won t be sufficient in controlling them. Moles on the other hand typically occupy wetter sites than do gophers because they are insectivores that rely on the availability of earthworms grubs and other arthropods in the moist soil. Moles are about 6 8 inches long with pointed snouts paddle like forefeet and long claws.
Since gophers are bigger and wider than moles their tunnels are also wider deeper and larger. These rodents also burrow near the surface of the earth and are often confused with moles. Gophers are by far the largest of the three and therefore can cause the most damage.
Their hills entrance is often situated at an angle.
